COVID-19 UPDATE - IMPORTANT
posted Mar 13, 2020, 4:54 PM
The following communication was received late this afternoon from the City of Mississauga:
With guidance from Peel Public Health and in an abundance of caution for both our residents and staff around the COVID-19 pandemic, the City is Mississauga is responding with the following changes in City operations at this time.
- The City of Mississauga will be closing all recreation, library, and cultural facilities starting Saturday, March 14 through to April 5 to the public. This includes the Living Arts Centre, Meadowvale Theatre, Paramount Fine Foods Centre and the Mississauga Seniors’ Centre. Programming at these facilities will be cancelled.
For this reason, the Port Credit Skating Club will be cancelling all skating sessions starting Sunday, March 15th to Sunday, April 5th.
We currently have coaches at the arena who are prepared to proceed with today’s scheduled sessions. PreCanSkate and CanSkate classes will proceed as planned. We ask that you use your discretion as to whether you wish to attend skating today.
We will keep you posted on further updates as they are available, this includes updates regarding Carnival.
COVID-19 MARCH 12TH UPDATE
posted Mar 12, 2020, 10:29 PM
The health and safety of our members, coaches, parents and volunteers the top priority for us. We are closely following the direction of the City of Mississauga, Peel Public Health, provincial health officials, the Public Health Agency of Canada and our governing bodies, Skate Ontario and Skate Canada.
Will there be skating on Friday & Sunday (March 13 & March 15)?
Yes. As of this time, all City of Mississauga facilities, including the Port Credit Memorial Arena are open. We plan to run all Star Skate and CanSkate/PreCanskate programs on Friday, March 13th and Sunday, March 15th.
If Public Health recommends closing the arena, we will advise you as quickly as possible by email and notifications on our website (portcreditskatingclub.ca) and social media accounts (#PCFSC and @portcreditskatingclub).
Will there be skating over March break?
There are no regular skating sessions at the Port Credit Skating Club from March 16th – March 21st.
We have a planned Competitive/Pre-Competitive on ice session, as well as a planned Off Ice session for March 22nd. Click here for more details.
At this time, we anticipate all regular StarSkate, CanSkate and PreCanskate sessions to resume March 23rd and March 24th, respectively.
Should circumstances change, we will communicate these to you as soon as possible.
The Government of Ontario has closed public schools for two weeks following March break (until April 5th). Will Port Credit Skating Club cancel skating sessions too?
We just don’t know right now. The COVID-19 situation is evolving quickly, and we do not have enough information to give you a definite answer at this time. We will let you know as soon as we can.
Will Carnival rehearsals begin as scheduled and will there still be a show?
Good question. While Carnival is an important tradition for Port Credit Skating Club, the health of our skaters, members, parents, coaches and their families and friends are more important. Please bear with us. When we know more, we will let you know.
Will the Skate Ontario Provincial Championship go ahead as scheduled?
Skate Ontario is monitoring the situation closely and, are “proceeding according to plan with upcoming Skate Ontario events at this time.” Skate Ontario will communicate any changes at skateontario.org
COVID-19 Prevention
Symptoms of COVID-19 are mild fever, dry cough, and sore throat. The best way to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other more common viruses is to:
- wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer
- avoid touching your eyes, mouth and nose as much as possible
- avoid contact with people who are ill and their items
- cover mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing; if no tissue is available, then sneeze or cough into the sleeve or arm
- clean and disinfect objects and surfaces regularly
- do not share food or drinks (including water bottles)
What should I do if my skater is sick?
Anytime you or your skater are sick, it is expected that you do not attend any scheduled skating sessions.
We will continue to monitor the situation and seek advice and recommendations in the coming days to ensure we are providing the safest environment possible. If recommendations change, we will respond quickly and communicate via our website, social media and email.
